Magazines
As a magazine editor, I value and ensure collaborative and open communication with freelance writers and magazine staff, and my goal is always to deliver compelling stories that are balanced and thoughtful.
Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine
2006 to 2024
Position: Editor
Our staff collaboratively decided each issue's stories. I assigned stories, managed a large group of freelance writers, managed editorial production, performed substantive and stylistic editing, finalized copy, worked closely with the photography and art departments, and performed final proofreading. I wrote editorials and short articles, and I also wrote the magazine’s comprehensive style guide.
Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine (KMC) was a 120-page biannual magazine in print for over 20 years, thanks to a loyal and enthusiastic readership. In our trademark style, KMC presented stories that explored a range of topics, including current issues, history, science, health, the arts, nature, humour, and the environment. Stories ranged from 200 to 3,500 words, and we printed 12,000 to 15,000 copies per issue. KMC was distributed in central and eastern British Columbia, western Alberta, northern Montana, Idaho, and Washington State. The Kootenay region of Canada is renowned internationally as an adventure-sport mecca of creative, innovative, and sometimes quirky people, and KMC’s mandate was always to document and celebrate all aspects of this mountain culture in a professional, inclusive, and balanced way.

Coast Mountain Culture Magazine
2011-2020
Position: Associate Editor
As associate editor at Coast Mountain Culture Magazine, I worked closely with the magazine’s editor, giving first-draft feedback on all stories and managing editorial production. I also performed stylistic editing and was the magazine’s proofreader.
Coast Mountain Culture Magazine was the biannual sister publication of Kootenay Mountain Culture Magazine, which had the same mandate as KMC. The magazine’s stories focused on the culture of the Pacific Northwest, where it was distributed in northern and coastal British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon.
